The B.C. Young Fishermen's Gathering

The Comfort Inn, Victoria, BC
24-25 January 2017

Event Details

Location: The Comfort Inn, Victoria BC (3020 Blanshard St).

Cost: $50 (lunch included)

24-25 January, 2017

The BC Young Fishermen's Gathering will:

  • Provide a space for young fishers to network and relate to like-minded individuals

  • Equip young fishers with the tools and knowledge they need to be successful

  • Highlight the rich history and culture of BC’s fishing industry

  • Encourage mentorship and apprenticeship in the fishing industry

  • Foster transparency, communication and openness across fisheries professions

The BC fishing fleet is “greying,” meaning that the average age of a fisher is increasing – fishers are growing older without being replaced by younger individuals beginning their careers. The BC Young Fishermen's Gathering was inspired by the Alaska Young Fishermen’s Summit, a symposium designed to provide information and opportunities for commercial fishermen early in their careers.
